Earth One… (18)

I have promised one new post per day for as long as I can go. So far today makes that 18 in a row. I don’t intended to stop anytime soon. But doing so does require me to play around with posts I normally would upload.

As you may be aware, or maybe you’re aren’t, I tend to write a lot about anything on my mind. That can be talking about zombie blood to theories on Fantastic Four joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Usually I have something in mind when I begin typing on my phone or laptop, but sometimes, much like today, I just wing it.

I have mentioned it in a post previously, but I feel given enough time, if I just write, the words and motivation for the post will happen. Today doesn’t seem to be that way. And I’m okay with that. You see, there are a few topics I’d love to talk about in the future, and this post makes for a great way to bring those topics up.

Way back in the past, I wanted to begin reviewing and writing about comics books. Not talking about how much I love this character, but more about the issues in general. The only problem I ran into when trying it out, was the constant need to talk about art and script with each issue. Every post would be praising the art, and then next issue the same and after that its more beautiful art. It would just continue on until the review turns into a copy/paste scenario. I don’t want that, and neither would the audience.

So I went back and forth with a friend years ago, and she suggested maybe reviewing a comic run in chunks. So take a bunch of issues that form an arc, and review them. Move onto the next one and do it again. So on, and so on. That’s an idea I could get behind.

Now as I sit here writing this, my iPad is beside me downloading a whole bunch of comics. I have plenty in mind, and surprisingly, the ones I want to review come from DC. I don’t know what it is, but unlike Marvel and their constant need to relaunch their series every year, DC sticks to their guns…for the most part.

The ones I’m looking at review really focus on Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. I want to review Superman: Birthright, Batman: Hush arc (#608-#619), Batman: Earth One Vol 1 and Vol 2, Superman: Earth One Vol 1, Vol 2 and Vol 3 and then finally Wonder Woman: Earth One Vol 1.

Why focus on the Earth One range, well frankly, they are new and different takes on the characters with some surprising changes thrown in. They exist outside of the main continuity and play around with characters, powers and lore. Are they all good? Wait and find out.

I look forward to reviewing these comics, and also writing up the reviews and eventually posting them. In saying that, I also feel like I am biting off way more than I can chew. So expect me to fail on bringing those reviews soon. I’ll at least post one review within the next 12 months…yeah thats more like the old me.
